Composition Competition – 13th April 2018

Applications are being received for a composition competition as part of the third concert in the annual series ‘Hearing Orpheus Today’. The concert shall be executed in 3 countries, with the earliest performance being on the 13th of April 2018 in Valletta, Malta. In 2018 Valletta will be the European Capital of Culture, hence this is a unique opportunity to have your work performed in the European Capital of Culture. The concert shall also be performed in Brno, Czech Republic during the 21st International Festival Meetings of New Music Plus 2018 (exact date of this will be announced in the near future). It shall also be performed in Minsk, Belarus at the Belarussian State Philharmony in Minsk on the 25th of May 2018..
The submitted composition must satisfy the following requirements :
1. Duration : Between 5 and 8 minutes
2. Scoring : clarinet in B flat, violin, viola, cello or any combination of these instruments (including pieces for solo instruments)
3. Style / idiom : any but pieces which use some form of folk music influence from the Czech Republic, Belarus or Malta shall be given preference.
4. Deadline : 31st of January 2018
There are no age or nationality restrictions. Up to four works will be chosen for performance in the concerts. The first prize is 500 euros.

3 copies of the score should be sent on the following address :
13, ‘Salvic’ , Lapsi Road, Siġġiewi, SGW1968, Malta.
The name of the composer should not appear on the score itself but details of the composer including contact details should be put on a separate sheet in a separate envelope. The parts should also be included in the submission.
