Skilled amateur community choral ensemble seeks submissions for its Choral Composition Competition. Top three works will be awarded cash prizes and performed on the Chorale's May 2012 concert.

CHORAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION
CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSION

1. Submitted works must be 3 to 6 minutes in length and scored for mixed SATB choir, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.

2. The music must be at a level of difficulty appropriate for a skilled amateur adult ensemble. Contact artistic director Dr. Ross C. Bernhardt (ross.bernhardt@tamucc.edu) for more detailed information regarding vocal ranges, capabilities, and examples of typical repertoire performed.

3. Each submission must be an unpublished work, preferably not performed. If previously performed, the Chorale must be able to present the Texas premiere on its May 2012 concert.

4. Text choice is at the discretion of the composer. The theme for the May 2012 concert on which the winning compositions would be performed is “Old, New, Borrowed, and Blues”. Texts not in the public domain must have documented permission for use from the copyright holder; a copy of this documentation must be sent with the entry.

5. Scores should be submitted in PDF form (all fonts embedded). Piano reductions are strongly encouraged for a cappella works. MIDI files or recordings (submitted as e-mail attachments) are encouraged as well. The composer’s name should NOT appear on the score. Contact information (name, address, phone) should be included in the submission e-mail. Submissions should be sent to: corpuschristichorale.gmail.com

6. Each composer may submit up to three (3) separate works. A $20 entry fee for each work submitted should be mailed separately to:

7. Deadline for score submission via e-mail is February 1, 2012. This date is also the postmark deadline for the entry fee(s).

8. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
First: $500
Second: $300
Third: $100

9. By submitting works to the competition, the composer grants rights to the Chorale for performance of the winning and for making sufficient copies of the score for the singers. Composers retain all other rights to the work.

10. The three prize-winning compositions will be performed on the Chorale’s May 2012 concert. The Chorale is, unfortunately, unable to provide travel stipends for composers who wish to attend the concert.
