The Utah Arts Festival is accepting applications for the 2011 Utah Arts Festival Commission for Orchestra. The work to be commissioned will be 8 – 12 minute work for chamber orchestra. The award will be $7500. The work will premiere at the 2010 Utah Arts Festival, performed by the Utah Arts Festival Orchestra, under the Artistic Direction of Andrew Rindfleisch. When awarded, the instrumentation for the commissioned piece will be for a 26 piece chamber orchestra as follows: 1 Flute (doubling Piccolo), 1 Oboe, 1 Clarinet (doubling Bass Clarinet), 1 Bassoon, 1 French Horn, 1 Trumpet, 1 Trombone, 2 Percussionists, 1 Piano, 4 First Violins, 4 second Violins, 3 Violas, 3 Cellos, 2 Doublebasses.
Eligibility: This commissioning application is open to all legal residents currently living in the United States, regardless of age and career level.
Submission Materials: Enclose the following materials in a sealed envelope bearing the chosen pseudonym: (1) One representative full score for either full orchestra or chamber orchestra. (Mark the score with the pseudonym, not the composer’s real name). (2) A compact disk of submitted piece. MIDI realized recordings will not be accepted. (Mark the CD with the pseudonym, not the composer’s real name). (3) Sealed envelope bearing chosen pseudonym containing both the submitted score and CD. (4) One page biography of composer.
