Stephen Paulus Emerging Composer Competition

True Concord Voices & Orchestra announces the second Stephen Paulus Emerging Composer Competition! We have recently extended the deadline for submissions to September 23, 2018. Only a few weeks remain to submit, but this is an outstanding opportunity for young and emerging composers.

Eligibility:
Composers between ages 18 and 40 residing in the U.S.

Deadline:
September 23, 2018

Prize:
$1,500, performance by True Concord on three November 2018 concerts in Tucson, $500 travel stipend to attend the concerts

Materials:
Submit a score in pdf format and a recording in mp3 format (MIDI realization acceptable) of a 5-6 minute setting of a text by Alan Seeger, American poet who fought and died in World War I. The Text may be found at www.trueconcord.org/composercompetition.
The setting should be for choir (SATB, up to double divisi) with or without piano and/or single or double obbligato string or wind instrument part(s)

Last year's winning composition was composed by Matthew Lyon Hazzard, and was premiered in Tucson last spring. Mr. Hazzard's piece was selected among over 40 submissions from around the country, adjudicated by Dan Asia, Jocelyn Hagen and Dale Warland.
