Ensemble Ibis: Student Composition Competition

The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami announces its 2018-19 Composition Competition for Students, created in honor of Dennis Kam, who taught composition at the Frost School of Music for more than three decades.

There are two divisions, as follows:

• Division 1: Open to composers who will be enrolled in high school as of 9/1/18.
• Division 2: Open to composers who will be enrolled as college undergraduates as of 9/1/18.
Students enrolled in the Frost School of Music are ineligible but are permitted to enter the separate in-house competition announced privately.

Students are invited to submit one work, for 1 to 15 instruments from Ensemble Ibis, the new music ensemble at the Frost School of Music under the direction of Dr. Shawn Crouch (please see web site for details).
Maximum duration: 10 minutes

Prizes: $250, performance, and live recording by Ensemble Ibis.
There will be one prize given for each category.
Honorable mentions will also be announced but will not receive a prize.

Applicants should submit their score electronically as a pdf file to Charles Norman Mason, Chair of Composition at: c.mason@miami.edu with the subject line “Frost Composition Submission, Division [1 or 2]: [composer name]”
Recordings or MIDI realizations may be included (only mp3 files please). Please remove track numbers from the name of the file and name the sound file with the same name as the score file.
