Call for Scores \ Welcoming Maqam \ neophon ensemble
Welcoming Maqam concert tour \ neophon ensemble
The neophon ensemble is searching for two composers for its "Welcoming Maqam" concert tour, which will take place from late September until early October 2016 with concerts in Istanbul, Ankara, Stuttgart and Berlin. The program will consist of solo concertos for a unique just intonation qanun, developed by Julien Weiss and ensemble. This project is seeking out ways of combining the microtonal qanun with the harmonic and spectral possibilities of the western contemporary ensemble.
A commission fee of € 2000 will be awarded to each composer to write a piece of 10-20 minutes duration making use of the full ensemble (solo strings, winds, brass). The composition process will begin with a workshop presented by the soloist Nurullah Ejder, and Composer and Musicologist Stefan Pohlit to be held in Germany from March 29th to April 4th.
The application is open to composers of all ages and nationalities. Travelling expenses will be reimbursed to a maximum of € 100 each way. Composers are asked to attend the workshop and some of the rehearsals in Germany.
Please submit a cv and two representative scores and recordings; one should be for a large ensemble the other for a small one. Electronic submissions only (pdf, mp3) to be addressed by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline is February 20th 2016.
The jury will consist of Marco Stroppa, Manfred Stahnke, Caspar Johannes Walter, Marc Sabat, Stefan Pohlit and Konstantin Heuer. The decision of the jury is final.
We look forward to receiving your applications!
